More About Our Guitar Program

Beginner Students

Beginner students start working on simple songs and melodies, chords and proper hand positioning.

Intermediate and Advanced Students

Guitar lessons for intermediate and advanced students focus on dynamics and musical interpretation, scales, arpeggios, and dexterity, while helping the student develop listening skills, left and right hand independence, coordination, reading skills and improvisational creativity.

All guitarists will learn to read tablature as well as standardized music notation, chords, finger picking, lead guitar, and rhythm technique. We balance musicianship and fun by making sure that students are challenged with a new technique or theory concept in each lesson, but lessons always end with something fun such as the student’s favorite song or riff.

We encourage students to enhanced their musical experience through multiple performing opportunities that allow students to showcase their skill, whether via a recital or jam with other musicians, including a rock band or guitar ensemble.

Frequently Asked Questions

How qualified are your guitar instructors?

Most of our instructors are degreed professionals and/or have strong performance experience. ‍

What will I learn from guitar lessons at the Academy?

Beginner guitar students can expect to work on chords, simple songs and melodies, sight reading and theory. Our instructors balance musicianship and fun by making sure that each lesson presents a new technical challenges or theory concept, and ends with something fun, such as your favorite riff or song.

How long does it take to learn to play instrument?

There is no set answer of how long it takes to learn an instrument. With regular practice a basic level of playing can be accomplished in a few months. Most of our students take lessons on a long term basis because they want to be constantly improving and they find the lessons enjoyable.

Do I need to purchase a guitar to learn the instrument?

Yes, to practice at home, students will need their own guitar.  While Allegro does not sell or rent guitars for student lessons, we can recommend several stores in the local area that offer affordable guitars for minimal cost.

What’s the #1 reason to study guitar at the Academy?

Our guitar instructors are warm and friendly, and get to know each student and parent on a personal level. We work with you to craft a lesson plan that fits your individual needs and the student's favorite type of music. Whether you're playing in local bands, a seven year old taking their first lesson, or a fifty year old returning to the guitar after many years, we’ll set goals to achieve your musical aspirations.
